LONDON: Charlotte Johnson Wahl, a professional painter and mother of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has died at the age of 79, the Telegraph newspaper reported.
Johnson Wahl died “suddenly and peace” at London Hospital on Monday, the newspaper said, quoting a statement from the family.
Downing Street does not respond to requests for comments. Family representatives cannot be achieved immediately.
Johnson described his mother as a “superior authority” in the family during the conservative party’s annual conference in 2019.
“I will quote the highest authority in my family – my mother, and by the way for students who are sharp from the division in my family in EU things, I want you to know that I have lifted ace on my sleeve – my mother chose ‘ , ‘”Johnson said.
According to the Telegraph, Johnson Wahl was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the age of 40 years.
“I tried painting every day if I could, even though I had to go to the hospital often. I still managed to paint, even though my arm suddenly would make a completely unintentional movement and that almost made me cry,” he told the newspaper in an interview in 2008.
